Welcome to the Johnson's Island Confederate Memorial Page
Johnson's Island is a 300-acre island located on Sandusky Bay in northern Ohio. It is on the coast of Lake Erie, and 3 miles from the city of Sandusky, Ohio. It was the site of a prisoner-of-war camp for Confederate officers and civlian prisoners of war captured during the American Civil War. During its three years of operation, more than 15,000 men were incarcerated on the Island.
The last Saturday of April is Confederate Memorial Day on the Island. The event begins at noon. Early arrival is suggested.
